our Statement of Belief
(a) Jesus Christ is the Lord and Saviour of the world, and he alone can liberate the broken and the fallen from sin and death. This message is the evangel – God’s good news – to the world, and we joyfully accept the task of proclaiming it. As such, we stand within the broad evangelical tradition of Christianity. (Philippians 2:9-11, 1 Timothy 1:15, Matthew 1:21, Acts 4:12)
(b) God is triune, exists in three divine persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They are coequal, coessential and coeternal. (Colossians 2:9, 1 John 5:7)
(c) The Holy Spirit works in human hearts to kindle faith in Jesus Christ, restore people to a right relationship with God and each other, and begin transforming people into the likeness of Christ. (John 14:26, Galatians 5:22-23)
(d) The Bible, the Old and New Testaments, is divinely inspired and authoritative. We embrace it as central to our understanding and witness. (2 Timothy 3:16, James 1:22, Psalm 119:130)
(e) God created humanity in God's image to be stewards of creation, and that we are called to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love others as ourselves. We strive to live up to this calling in our daily lives. (Genesis 1:26-27, 2 Corinthians 3:18, Matthew 22: 37-40)
(f) Salvation comes through faith in the gracious gift of God, his son Jesus. God’s grace is available to us through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and through this faith, we are saved from lives weighed down by sin and death. (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9, John 3:16)
(g) Our response to the light, health, wholeness and peace which is abundantly available from God to everyone who asks is to practice what we preach. First, by cultivating devotion to Christ, and second by engaging the surrounding culture through words of public testimony and deeds of loving service. (Philippians 4:8-9, James 1:22, Ephesians 2:10)
(h) The future is assured, Christ’s return will bring to completion God’s saving work for all creation. (Hebrews 9:28, Matthew 25: 31-46, Revelation 21:4)
(i) Theological diversity, when grounded in historic orthodoxy (1) and a common and vital faith in Christ, enriches learning and bears witness to our Lord’s call for unity within the church. (Philippians 2:2-8, 1 Corinthians 1:10, Ephesians 4:3-6)
